Blessing-Five Minute Friday

School is out and now is the time to sleep in late and catch up on other projects or take time to reflect. This morning's prompt was not what I expected, but then again, it never is. Perhaps He knew what I needed to shift my focus on.

blessing....

Years ago new friends encouraged me to take an inventory of my life. All positive, significant events get written on yellow post its. Painful, life changing events go on pink post its. After reflecting, you write lessons learned on green post its.

I've tried to do it every year now. As my birthday is quickly approaching, I will begin reviewing my journal for the past year to see what went well and what was unexpected. I've been doing this for years now and do you know what I've discovered?

I've always had more yellow than pink! I can say like the gospel singer, Marvin Winans, "All my good days, outweigh my bad days, so I won't complain."

STOP

Philippians 4:8 "Finally brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things."

Steady-Five Minute Friday

It's here! Summer vacation has begun and what a great prompt to mull over in this season of harvest. I actually had enough time to write this morning, so here is my posting for ....

steady

Can you picture an oak or an evergreen firmly planted? The evergreens stay green no matter what season it is. Psalm 1 describes trees firmly planted by the water. Their leaves never wither.

I also love to think of Amber, the draft horse I ride. Strong, but gentle and very reliable. She doesn't spook easily, but goes where I lead her. On trails, she is great. Kids love her and they even slide off the back of her.

Steady.

We all need that place, that center to be anchored. I think others need to see it, too. Easier said then done, but in times when everything around us is literally being shaken, we need to hold onto that which remains.

STOP

Psalm 1:3 "And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season, And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers."

Hebrews 12:27 " And this expression,'Yet once more, denotes the removing of those things, which can be shaken, as of created things, in order that those things which cannot be shaken may remain."

Worth-Five Minute Friday on Sunday

I kept going round and round with this week's prompt and today I finally had some time to write. Sundays are great for that. Before I jumped in with the timer, I perused quotes in google. This one jumped out at me:

"If something's hard to do, it's not worth doing."-Homer Simpson

worth?

I'm so glad the Simpsons never appealed to me. It came out when I was much younger, but I only saw a few episodes which were enough to convince me I could spend my time better elsewhere.

Friday I didn't have a lot of time. I barely got to eat lunch that day and then after school had plenty to do to clean and pack up before hitting the road to drive almost two hours for my niece's high school graduation. As I looked down at the gas tank reading, I added filling up to my list while munching on a protein bar for dinner. At one point I feared I wouldn't make it on time and entertained the thought of turning back. I'm glad I didn't listen. Just made it. Seeing her graduate and helping her to celebrate was so worth it.

Ecclesiastes 2:24 "There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good. This also I have seen that it is from the hand of God."

Expect- Five Minute Friday

What a word for this week. I had vacation plans fall through, lost an important booklet, and am now facing a week ahead filled with ninety degree temps after being in the sixties and low seventies. I'm not even sure what to expect anymore. Is anyone out there with me? Thus, what am I left to.......

Expect?

We expect to be home or somewhere each night.

We expect to see the sun the next day.

We expect loved ones to follow through and not disappoint us.

We expect a lot, both me and you.

I can't tell you what to expect.

I'm not sure what will come or go, who will disappoint, or surprise me.

But I know the One who does.

He never promised life would be easy.

He never said it would go according to plan.

He did say to expect trouble, for we'll all get our fair share.

I can't tell you what He'll do or not do.

Maybe things will go smooth and maybe not.

I'm not even sure what to expect Him to do now, but I'm sure I'll find out.

STOP

"These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." John 16:33 (NASB)

Future- Five Minute Friday

This week we are posting at a new website. Five Minute Friday is now at www.fiveminutefriday.com
So make sure you check out it to see what everyone is up to.

It took me some time to reflect on this week's prompt. I thought of a verse in Ecclesiastes first.

Ecclesiastes 7:14 "In the day of prosperity be happy, But in the day of adversity consider God has made the one as well as the other so that man may not discover anything that will come after him." (NASB)

future......

"You have a lot of surprises ahead," I once heard someone say.

At times the glare from the sun has been so blinding I can't see anything two feet in front of me. Other times when the moon is hidden, the blackness of night keeps me from walking ahead. I don't know what the future holds. There are no guarantees. It is hard to make a big investment and jump into something that locks me in. Unless I know the One leading me there. Then, it will fit like a great pair of jeans or shoes.

The King can and will lead.
